Goals for 2018

Each year throughout the first week of January, I like to make a list of my New Year’s goals. Of course as the year goes along I add, take away, and change some of the goals. To kick off 2018 I thought I would write an article to share some of my goals or “resolutions” for this year. If I am being honest there has never been a year where I completed every single resolution I made, which is disappointing. On the bright side for each year I set resolutions, I completed quite a few of them. One Huffington post article I read said 80% of resolutions are given up by February and only 8% of people keep their New Year’s resolutions till the end of the year. I think one of the main reasons for this failure rate is because people set their expectations too high. Instead of saying “I want to start running 3 times a week”, people will say “I want to complete a marathon by summer”. And they haven’t even been walking a mile a week.

This creates a cycle of disappointment. Once you fail several big goals in a row, it becomes easier to give up on the rest of the goals you have set. On the flip side if you start with smaller goals that lead up to one big goal and you successfully complete numerous of the small goals, it will fuel your motivation to complete the other (potentially bigger) goals. This is the plan I am using for setting my 2018 goals. I could simply say: “I plan on hitting 45k followers and 2 million monthly viewers on Pinterest by December 2018”. But, instead I am going to say: “I will pin 5 days a week, I will find new accounts to follow, and I will share my followers’ content each week”. Each of these mini goals, will lead up to me (hopefully) being able to complete my goal of 45k followers and 2 million monthly viewers. Some of these other goals have mini goals behind them (and bigger goals ahead once they’re completed), but for the sake of keeping this post short, I’ve left them out. If you are looking for some ideas of goals to your 2018 New Year’s Resolution list, here are some of the goals I have on my list. 🙂

My Goals For 2018
  1. Read 25 books.
  2. Spend time reading my bible each day.
  3. Write in my journal daily, even if it is only a few lines. My best record is I wrote every single day in my journal for over 2 and a half years!
  4. Post to Instagram 5 times a week.
  5. Watch less TV and listen to more music.
  6. Do things that scare me.
  7. Seek out new opportunities.
  8. Wear more of the clothes that I own. It’s easy to get in the habit of wearing our favorite clothes and forget about the other 90% we own.
  9. Organize my photos.
  10. Try one new recipe a week.
  11. Reach 1k Instagram followers.
  12. Hit 45K Pinterest followers.
  13. Reach 8k followers on WeHeartIt.
  14. Hit 2 million monthly views on Pinterest.


If you miss a day of running, reading your bible, eating healthy, etc. just move forward. Every day is a new day and another chance at chasing those dreams and goals. Just because you miss one day, it doesn’t mean you have to miss a hundred. Working towards goals is hard, but in the end remember that it will be completely worth it. It’s hard to change, but it’s hard and boring to stay the same too. 😉 Happy New Year and good luck with all of your New Year’s goals!!
